地球破壊、あるいは俺達はやっちゃった

40年前に、オゾン層を破壊する化学物質が大気中に積み上がっている(ozon-destroying chemicals were piling up in the atmosphere)、と警告を発した英国の科学者ジェームス・ラブロック(James Lovelock)教授が、ワシントン・ポスト紙のインタビューで語っている話(9月2日付、06年)は、まさに身の毛のよだつような恐怖の物語である。

オゾン層破壊に関しては、当時彼の警告を受けて各国政府が対応を図ったので、なんとかそれ以上悪くはならずに来ている。しかし、その他の彼の警告はほとんど無視され、あるいは私のように無知なまま、ドンチャン騒ぎを続けてきて、今日に至っている。

そして、彼の言うところによれば；
